10 tricks to Prevent Stretch Marks during Pregnancy

Stretch marks are one of the aesthetic problems that most worry pregnant women and, unfortunately, they will appear on the skin of the majority of pregnant women, to a greater or lesser extent, since there are very few lucky ones who end their pregnancy without any new stretch marks on the skin. In this stage full of bodily changes, it is inevitable that some of them affect your skin. This stretches a lot and it is easy for small tears to occur due to the lack of elasticity and in the end stretch marks appear on the chest, stomach, or hips.

The key is prevention and the sooner you start, the better. You must have your skin well hydrated throughout your pregnancy, so it is essential to apply a moisturizing cream or an oil suitable for pregnant women at least twice a day, although it is advisable to always carry a small bottle on hand to apply it at the time of pregnancy. The skin begins to feel tight or begins to itch.

Anti-stretch mark creams are of great help since they have substances that promote the formation of elastic and collagen fibers and have repairing active ingredients. Centella Asiatica or rosehip are components that help make the skin more elastic. Essential oils are also great allies during pregnancy, since they have high proportions of elements that promote elasticity and, therefore, help the body prepare for the future growth of the belly and the inevitable weight gain.

Tips to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy

  1. It is essential to hydrate the skin twice a day so that it retains its natural elasticity and is prepared to resist the distension caused by the increase in body volume during pregnancy.
  2. Drink plenty of water. By drinking water we hydrate the skin from the inside and promote its elasticity. Furthermore, drinking water is essential for the proper functioning of our body.
  3.  Exercise regularly. Staying in shape during pregnancy is very important to stay well and, in addition, good muscle tone prevents skin micro-tears, so let's get to work!
  4. Avoid sun exposure. And if you do, always use a good sunscreen and then a very moisturizing after-sun lotion.
  5. Massage the skin. Circular massages in problem areas - chest, hips, stomach and thighs - when applying the anti-stretch mark cream stimulate circulation. To strengthen the skin you can also give yourself gentle pinches.
  6. Healthy and balanced diet. It is very important to eat proteins – meat and fish – and foods rich in vitamins A, E, C, and magnesium.
  7. Wear a bra that fits your breast size. It will help the skin cope with the large volume changes of this stage.
  8. Continue using the anti-stretch mark cream two or three months after giving birth, until the skin returns to its natural state. Sometimes stretch marks appear after having a baby.
  9. Don't smoke. Tobacco is completely contraindicated during pregnancy because it damages the baby but also the skin. It decreases the production of collagen and elastin and, therefore, promotes the appearance of stretch marks.

Do not use treatments with Retinol-A, as they are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
