The letter your name begins with determines your personality, according to science

When we choose a name for our baby, we do not stop to think that, depending on the name chosen, it can affect the little one's personality in one way or another throughout his or her life.

And the truth is that science has shown that it doesn't matter what name we choose: your personality will always be affected in one way or another. Not only because of the cultural overtones that it may carry but also because of the sonority that they imply when they are said out loud.

And, taking into account these principles of aesthetics and the sound of words, science has been in charge of demonstrating over the years how the letters of our name affect our personality (and no, it has nothing to do with astrological assumptions or with numerology). As we say, it's all based on how they sound when you say them out loud.

The letter your name begins with determines whether you are sweet or extroverted.

In this sense, a few years ago, the University of Calgary carried out scientific research that, based on the sound of different names, determined how it affects the way it sounds out loud to the person who carries it.

Specifically, the authors compared names that contain what are known as 'voiced consonants', such as A, L, or B, with others that contain less voiced consonants, such as K, R, T or P. _ And the former sound softer than the latter, which are more abrupt.

If your name is Ana, you are probably a sweet person.

According to research results, soft-sounding names like Ana or Lúa are associated with personality qualities such as kindness, sensitivity, or cooperation. However, names that sound more abrupt or harsh, such as 'Kevin' or 'Tatiana', 'Pablo' or 'Ramón', are associated with stronger, more independent, and ambitious personalities ( because those letters themselves are more robust).

To reach these conclusions, the researchers carried out two experiments. In the first, they asked a group of people to listen to a series of names and associate them with different adjectives. The results of this survey showed that people tend to associate softer names with positive adjectives such as 'kind' or 'sentimental', while stronger names are associated with more negative qualities such as 'dominant' or 'aggressive'.

After that experiment, the authors asked another group to imagine what a person with a given name would be like. Again, the results showed that participants associate soft names with more understanding and hard-working people, and strong names with competitive and outgoing people.

Why is it important to know the results of this study?

It is obvious, and this is confirmed by the research, that the relationship between the sound of a name and the personality of a person is not something applicable to the entire population. And it doesn't have to be that way. However, knowing this information is interesting, for example, to help us understand why we like some people from the beginning and not others.

Or why some people with certain names tend to be successful in certain fields.

And, of course, it supports the idea already given by psychologist Rafa Guerrero, who determined that, indeed, the name that our parents choose for us affects our personality in one way or another.

In fact, there are many other studies that say that cultural connotations or even the beauty that we ourselves find in our name can somehow determine our future.
