With the baby at home, the nights become shorter and the rest is less restful. We are always alert in case the little one needs something. That is why it is so important to learn to relax to fall asleep well.
The stress of adapting to the role of mother (and how exhausted it leaves us) can prevent us from being able to fall asleep. And in turn, this difficulty sleeping makes us more nervous. And the more we worry about not being able to rest, the harder it is to get it.
Fortunately, this stage of insomnia and fatigue is temporary and subsides as soon as the little one begins to sleep for a few hours straight. The quality of sleep begins to recover approximately three months after delivery, although the mother continues to sleep an insufficient number of hours for a few months.
There are no recipes for the baby to let us sleep more, but there are strategies to make the hours of rest more effective, or, at least, to face the day with more energy. These are some tips to help you get that desired rest.
Delegate care
If our partner, parents, or friends want to help us with our homework, let us gladly accept. From time to time, it doesn't hurt to delegate tasks like early morning bottles or diaper changes to a partner or family member. All collaboration is little in the care of the baby.
Rest doing something you like
If you can't fall asleep when your little one is taking a nap, you can take advantage of those moments to do some activity that you like. For example, spend a quiet time reading something simple. And yes, in the end, you relax so much that you end up falling asleep, great!
Light and oxygen reduce the feeling of tiredness. Therefore, there is nothing better than starting the day with a walk in the park or around the neighborhood. You will feel more awake and in a better mood, even if you haven't slept well. Your baby will also really enjoy morning walks.
Sleep when the baby does
Accompany your advice when he takes a nap. Even if you don't fall asleep, you can take advantage of the moment to take a break. And everything else (food, ironing, etc.), you will do when you are both awake.
A moment of relaxation
When you have some free time, you can practice relaxation techniques and, in the process, stretch your muscles. For example, stand facing forward, bend your trunk until you touch the wall with your hands, and swing your hips to the sides. This exercise will help you release accumulated tension.
Take care of yourself to be strong
After giving birth, many mothers become obsessed with losing the kilos they gained during pregnancy. It is normal, but do not forget that, for your own health and that of the baby, you must be strong and eat a healthy, complete, and balanced diet.
We recommend starting the day with freshly squeezed juice, very rich in vitamin C. And if you are not too tired and you still have strength after spending the day with your little one, you can also do a postpartum gymnastics course.
If you can't fall asleep within 20 minutes, get out of bed before your nerves get to you and do some activity that relaxes you: you can listen to music, read, or draw. After a while, you will surely fall into bed exhausted.
Natural restorative
If at any time you feel exhausted, go away for a moment, soak a towel with hot water, add two or three drops of rosemary or mint essence, and apply it to the back of your neck. The heat and fresh smell will help you get back on track.
Avoid certain foods
Optimism above all
Even though the child is small now and may have trouble falling asleep, better times will come. No child has problems sleeping forever.
