It's back to school, work, and routine, and on too many occasions stress takes over the entire family. Perhaps it's best to take a moment and organize our routines together.

How to organize daily routines so that the return to school does not overwhelm us at home

The mornings when September arrives can be real chaos until we all get into the rhythm and assimilate into each other's routines. The bad thing is when all of this has to be done by only one person or at most two.

The ideal: teamwork, and collaboration between everyone. For this, the best thing we can do is organize ourselves together and define what each member of the family can and should do so that every morning we do not rush, get nervous, and start the day in a bad mood.

Encourage autonomy with a to-do list

The organization of the different household tasks in which we can all participate and get involved encourages the autonomy of our children from their childhood and is key for them to learn to do them and appreciate the effort it takes to do them. It gives them self-confidence, helps them be independent, and develops self-confidence.

It is important that we make the list together, that we adapt the list of tasks to the family's needs and that of course, we take into account the age of the children, their abilities, and their abilities.

If we involve all family members and value their opinions and participation, we will be able to reinforce their sense of belonging, their empathy, and their desire to collaborate by being an active part of the team, with voice and vote.

If we have small children, we can create a very visual chore chart and organize it in a craft that we can stick on the refrigerator or distribute throughout the bedrooms so that everyone has a copy and can review it when necessary.

If our children are a little older, we can opt for simple and practical digital tools that can even notify them when it is their turn to carry out one of the assigned tasks.

A task table on the tablet

On the tablet or each person on their mobile phone, it can be a way to know at all times what each person has to do.

Google Calendar is perhaps one of the most used, most effective, simplest, and free digital tools that we can use to organize all the tasks of the day.

It is a calendar that can be accessed in real-time from any device, so it can be perfect for everyone on their mobile to have a list of tasks, cross out those they have done, or report any unforeseen events to the rest of the members. of the family.

MeToca is the application that the Ministry of Equality has launched to promote the sharing of domestic tasks among all family members. It is also free and its use is very simple for all ages, each user registers as a member of a team and each one assumes the agreed tasks together.

What to include on the to-do list?

We can start with the first things of the day, the morning routines, the ones that perhaps complicate our day the most due to time and rush.

  1. For the little ones: Let them wake up and get out of bed alone
  2. Have breakfast and then pick up the cup or whatever was used for breakfast, the little ones can leave it in the sink, and the older ones can leave it in the dishwasher. We must assess their age and their ability to carry out the task.
  3. Clean yourself properly.
  4. Dress independently
  5. Make the bed and pick up things from your room
  6. Prepare the recess snack and put it in the backpack. If they are too small, perhaps they can only put it in their backpack and we adults will have to prepare it for them.
  7. Finish dressing: put on shoes, put on your coat, or whatever you bring to the educational center.

It seems that all of this is going to take us a long time, but the truth is that as we get into the rhythm, not only will it not take us any longer than if it were all done by an adult, but it is that we will surely be much more relaxed in the morning with the collaboration of all.

How do we organize ourselves in the afternoon?

Perhaps these are the most variable because leaving school, nursery school, or high school, along with each person's extracurricular activities, means different schedules for each family member.

The most important thing is perhaps the time of snack and school homework if there is any and there we continue to see that the best thing is to organize ourselves together, each one with his own rhythms, possibilities, and abilities.

Before we go to bed

We are tired, the day ends and it helps us all a lot if each one is clear about their obligations and needs.

  1. A shower or bath for the little ones.
  2. Putting on pajamas independently
  3. Dine and help clean up the kitchen
  4. Prepare the school backpack for the next day, so that nothing is forgotten
  5. Wash your teeth and hands
  6. Prepare clothes for the next day, the little ones may need our help or supervision
  7. Read before bed, we may read aloud to our children if they are very young, they may read to us if they are learning or they may read a few pages independently, it will always depend on their age but it is highly recommended so they can relax before going to sleep.
